Bennington Pottery/A little Spring in the Dinning Room

The sun was shining beautifully today and that always seems to help me get in the cleaning mode. I cleaned the dining room and hand washed the China along with our Bennington pottery collection. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I decided to take a break from cleaning to thumb through one of my favorite magazines, Country Living, when I saw this article about Bennington Potters blue agate spatter ware.  This was sort of like one of those meant to read articles…..especially since I was already in the process of giving our pottery a break from the wear and tear of every day use.

Here’s the Bennington Barn where the stoneware is made and created by the talented artist David Gil.  The studio mentors 12 noted sculptors and painters.

I must confess….we never purchased one piece of this wonderful pottery. It was given to us, several pieces at a time over a period of years, as a Christmas gift, from our family and I’m ever so grateful! 

 

 

These photos are from the Bennington Poetry site. I like how they paired it with the neutral napkins and placemat. 

 

I rarely photograph the inside of my home, because we have such a mix match of wood furniture, and photographing this room can be a challenge, especially if you are an amateur like me.  

I’m planning on taking an Annie Sloan milk painting class soon, hopefully, to learn how to paint several of these pieces that aren’t family antiques.  I think that would also lighten things up a bit and make it a little more interesting.

I added a few French accents along with my first street photography photo from the famous Brennan’s restaurant in New Orleans's.

 

 

 

 

I also read, in the article, that President elect and his family chose this same blue agate spatter ware for their White House residence,  I agree…they must have good taste!

A Few Spring Touches

 

Ah, Spring!  This season brings increasing daylight, warming temperatures

(although we’re still waiting) as well as, lovely flowers.

It seems like Spring is taking it’s good ole time

arriving here this year!

I’m sure it’s just around the corner…but in the meantime

the spring daffodil's are putting on a show.

 

 

I’ve spent a few hours over the weekend adding a

little spring and summer touches to the dinning area.

 

 

My garden is in desperate need of a little TLC.

If the Frost Chart above is anywhere near

correct, it’s look like we have several more weeks to go before

the frost’s are over.

 

 

There’s nothing fancy, dancy going on here….just a few things I found

around the house, and…

 

 

threw in my twig basket.

 

 

Now….I’ve got to come up with a menu!

I think I’ll check out Pinterest!

Since I discovered Pinterest, I never use my cook books anymore.

~Celebrating Fall In The Garden~

 

 

Hello friends!

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood today, the weather’s

been just about perfect.

It’s the kind of day that makes you want to

dust off the  grill, invite a few friends over,

and enjoy this beautiful weather.

I hope you’re having some of the same where you are.

 

 

Amazingly, the mosquitos aren’t out today. 

This summer has been the worst for those pesky little bugs.

  

 

I got a chance yesterday to visit a few blogs and I ran across a great

blog tip that some of you might be interested in 

 

 

over at Addicted 2 Decorating…. 

  She talks about how it really helps

  

 

to resize your photo’s before uploading them to your blog.

 

 

Have you noticed how some blogs are so slow to load?

 

(This fountain is a little different…somewhat like me.)

Anyway, she says it’s because they don’t

resize their photo’s before uploading to their blog.

 

 

So, I took her advice and resized at least most of these photo’s.  

What’s your favorite editing program?

I’ve been using picnik, mainly, because it’s so user friendly and 

 

 

it’s also free.

I’m so glad there’s smart, high tech folks out there

that doesn’t mind sharing their knowledge with low tech people like me.

 

 

Alise, my sister in law, taught me how to use a monogram machine

several years ago. 

 

 

These napkins were the very first thing I ever monogrammed.  I guess

that’s why I love and use them so much.

 

 

She made me think I was natural born

monogrammer.   

 

 

She also found this adorable tablecloth

 

 

on one of her fantastic, whale of a deal, shopping trips.

It’s perfect for the bar table and I’m loving it.

 

 

Even though the sun is shinning

 

 

  through the Pergola, it’s still a very comfortable 75 degree’s.

 

 

Albert’s having a relaxing day too! 

 

 

Fall is for falling in love with the outdoors. 

 

 

After the stifling hot summer, go on outdoors and take a look

at the changes Mother Nature has given us.

The leaves will be turning colors in a few

weeks and it will be the perfect time to take a nature walk

through the woods.

Painting Concrete

 

The husband and I have been at the lake cottage all week

 

 

trying to catch up on a little gardening,  a little

 

 

house cleaning along with the addition of a few fall touches  before

weekend company arrives.

 

I’m sure some of you already knew this but for some reason I didn’t realize sedum was so easy to grow.

I put a cutting in a glass of water, left if for a few weeks, now its ready to plant!

Love these plants and I think the butterflies do as well. 

 

 

Since the weather has been cooler we thought it would be a great time

to repaint our old chipped concrete porch.

We used Restore Concrete Finisher .

 

BEFORE & AFTER

 

We’ve used this paint before on the back patio of this house.

It’s been the only thing that would actually stick and not chip off.

One of the greatest things about it…. it’s skid proof, even when it’s wet.

 

 

A little burnt orange acrylic paint was added to the Rattan rug for color.

 

One project down and many more to go.

I’m loving this fall weather….

Queen Ann’s Lace

The weather’s been very hot and humid here today in WK, but that didn’t stop me and Albert from taking a little walk.

We walked by a field of Queen  Ann’s Lace.  It looked so pretty mixed with its pretty green foliage.  Do you ever see something and it triggers memories of when you were young?  When I saw this field of Queen Ann’s Lace I immediately remembered seeing it on the farm and my dad would tell me to never pick them because they were full of chiggers.  I really don’t remember ever picking any until…….. 

   today.

 

   So far, so good, no chiggers and …….I lOvE looking at them!  :-)
