Junk or Vintage Treasure

It’s been a fun week here at the lake cottage, but as always, it’s time to return home.  I guess it wouldn’t be as much fun if we stayed here all of the time. 
I did find an old vintage stool and metal bowl that makes a perfect prop for photography.  I’m always looking for rustic old things for photography.  The chipper and rustic the better.

And……the best part they were practically free.



Blog dog had to check out the strawberries.

I think he wants to take a bite of one of those delicious ripe strawberries!

Anyway, I absolutely love Better Homes and Gardens Cottage Style Magazine.  I was thumbing through an older one this week, and this old stool and bowl looks like something in one of their cottages.

Take Some Time

Hello Friends!

I’m taking some time…..

away from the computer to enjoy these beautiful spring mornings that we have been having in KY.  I’m anticipating the weather to change any day now from 80 degrees to much hotter temperatures….so I’m getting a head start. 

 

My peonies have been beautiful this year, however, I lost all of my lavender.

   

 

 

This spring I’ve been busy gardening, but somehow the weeds seem to be one step ahead of me.

.

How about you? Do you take time to enjoy what you love? It could be as simple as planting flowers, listening to music or reading your favorite book….or being silent, and just bask in the sounds of nature (one of my favorites).

 

These are a few of life's simple little pleasures that doesn’t cost very much money, but are priceless.

 

 

Today was indeed a joyful day…I took time to smell the roses, and I’m feeling better already.

Liberty Hall Gardens

Hello everyone!

Albert and I took a long walk yesterday, between rain showers, and visited the gardens at Liberty Hall. This is an old property that was built for John Brown in 1796 – 1803.  Who was John Brown?  He was the founding father of Kentucky and if you’re interested in reading more about this property you can read it here at this site. 

 

 

It was so quiet and peaceful, and the legend goes that there is a ghost, the gray lady,  that lives in the house.  She’s been seen looking out from the upstairs window, however, she must have been taking a nap today because we didn’t see her.  I’m sorry that I didn’t get photo’s of the house, but Albert was with me sooo…. we stayed in the back garden. 

 

 

These two little daises looked like they were hugging each other.  Did you know flowers have personalities? 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I would love to have an all white garden, they seem so serene and eloquent.  

When my daughter and I visited Charleston last fall, we saw several lovely windows boxes planted with all white flowers.  My daughter liked them so well she took pictures and saved them on her iPhone.  She talked me into planting our flower boxes in all white this year, although I couldn’t find the exact same flowers, I’m hoping they will look something like Charleston's.

April Spring Days

There always comes a spring day when barely there green appears without warning on yesterday’s bare trees.  Maybe we undergo change in the same way.

Bennington Pottery/A little Spring in the Dinning Room

The sun was shining beautifully today and that always seems to help me get in the cleaning mode. I cleaned the dining room and hand washed the China along with our Bennington pottery collection. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I decided to take a break from cleaning to thumb through one of my favorite magazines, Country Living, when I saw this article about Bennington Potters blue agate spatter ware.  This was sort of like one of those meant to read articles…..especially since I was already in the process of giving our pottery a break from the wear and tear of every day use.

Here’s the Bennington Barn where the stoneware is made and created by the talented artist David Gil.  The studio mentors 12 noted sculptors and painters.

I must confess….we never purchased one piece of this wonderful pottery. It was given to us, several pieces at a time over a period of years, as a Christmas gift, from our family and I’m ever so grateful! 

 

 

These photos are from the Bennington Poetry site. I like how they paired it with the neutral napkins and placemat. 

 

I rarely photograph the inside of my home, because we have such a mix match of wood furniture, and photographing this room can be a challenge, especially if you are an amateur like me.  

I’m planning on taking an Annie Sloan milk painting class soon, hopefully, to learn how to paint several of these pieces that aren’t family antiques.  I think that would also lighten things up a bit and make it a little more interesting.

I added a few French accents along with my first street photography photo from the famous Brennan’s restaurant in New Orleans's.

 

 

 

 

I also read, in the article, that President elect and his family chose this same blue agate spatter ware for their White House residence,  I agree…they must have good taste!
