Kentucky’s State Capitol and Governor’s Mansion

Kentucky's Governor's Mansion is one of only a handful of executive residences in the United States to be open to the public for tours. Thousands of visitors from across the Commonwealth and around the world visit the Governor's Mansion every year.

The mansions garden’s are at their peak right now,

beautiful shades of lavender, pink and white.

The air was filled with the most wonderful fragrance of lavender

and roses.

The sounds of buzzing bees, chirping birds and the water fountains are one my

favorite things.  The only thing missing was butterflies.  It’s rare to see

any colorful butterflies in this area.

Beneath the dome in the rotunda, stands a larger than life-size statue of Abraham Lincoln, towering 14' tall, surrounded by sculptures of Jefferson Davis, Henry Clay, Alben Barkley and Dr. Ephraim McDowell. (Tradition holds that rubbing the boot of the Lincoln statue will bring a visitor luck.) Lunettes of the nave are decorated with oil paintings: the east mural depicts Daniel Boone and his men seeing the Bluegrass for the first time from a Pilot Knob in Powell County; the west mural shows Boone and the Transylvania Co. negotiating with the Cherokee Indians for the land known as "Kentucky."

The Capitol Building is influenced from important places of history and architecture from all over the world.Architect Andrews design was reminiscent of the massive buildings and palaces found in France.

~Tiptoe through the tulips~

The weather has been perfect here for the last couple of days.  When it’s nice outside it’s hard to think about crafting, painting or cleaning.  Our weather is very unpredictable this time of year.   One day the sun will shine and it will be 85 degrees, the very next day it will be cold and rainy and in the 30’s, so my motto …. be lazy and enjoy it while you can.
We’ve had a few thunderstorms but it soon stops and out pops the sun.
See what else has popped!  I must say Albert has been getting several walks during this nice weather and he’s loving it!
