~A few changes for the New Year~

The tree is down and put away with all signs of Christmas in the house completely gone.  The outside remains until after the New Year.

New Year's Resolutions?  I usually never make any because I don't follow through,  but this year I'm hoping will be different.  How about you?

I did actually accomplish one of the things that was on my list to do this year.  I've always wanted to paint the kitchen at the lake cottage white,  and since it was a very dreary, rainy week I thought it would be the perfect time to get it done.

I also found these old scales at one of the local antique shops.  They were a little "rusty" but they tell a story....right?

This was a find, an antique fly fisherman's basket.  I love it because it fits the theme of the lake cottage along with a great place to store our garbage bags.  I'm all about dual purpose things.

My sister in law spotted this old rake at a shop in downtown Paducah, I think it works perfectly for the wine glasses she gave me.

I tried taking photo's of the kitchen, but the lighting was still too dark due to all of the rain.  I'm definitely not complaining....praying for all of those that have had their homes destroyed by all of the tornadoes in Texas and various other places.  It's so sad, especially at this time of year.

Minhou Storage Cabinet

We’re here at the lake cottage this week and the

weather has been beautiful.  It’s been sunny and

in the high 50’s. You can’t ask for anything better, especially this time of year.

Anyway, I had to share my bargain of the year with you.

We stopped at Pier One yesterday

and I spotted this little chest with a price mark down to $30.00.

The only thing I could see wrong with it was a scratch on top.

The sales clerk said it also had a broken leg.

We decided we could fix her and we really

needed the storage and the price was certainly right.

She’s fits perfectly in this little corner and now I have a

special place for my table linens and etc.

It was originally listed for $349.00.

We took a walk to the lake before dinner last night and

 

 

the sunset was absolutely stunning.

There’s nothing any more beautiful than God’s creations!

Great finds!

 Can you believe I have made two posts in a week?  Wow!  Want to see some of my great finds this week?  

I found this little print in an antique mall.  It was a deal for only $10.   Sorry for the glare!  My flash wasn’t on.  Honest!

I found these wonderful books below for $1.00 each at a yard sale.    Here’s a peak at what’s inside each one of them.

I very seldom find anything at yard sales but this one was great.  Too bad I didn’t have my husband’s truck or…. maybe not!  This is Martha’s new book.  My sister in law gave it to me as a gift last week.   Love it!Cute and very good smelling Pear soy candle for $2.50.   I bought several of these at the Chicago Cutlery store. 

We have been GArDeNinG!  Truly, my husband and I worked for two days pulling invasive plants and weeds.  One load down and several more to go.

This cute bluebird has been watching me work  all afternoon.   

Finally…… all the weeds have been pulled and the garden has been mulched.

Ahhh….it feels so nice to just sit and watch my garden grow.

Spray Paint! Isn't it wonderful?

 We’ve had these old candleholders since the 70’s.   Anyway…..I have way too much matchy, matchy in my house.  I thought I would give them a nice coat of black spray paint and modern them up just a little.

I almost forgot.   I made another French Grain Sack pillow for our family reunion’s silent auction on Saturday.  I hope someone bids on it!

 I’ve been scrubbing and cleaning and trying to get the CLUTTER out of my house.  How do you keep the clutter out of your house?

The best things in life are “free”

Does anyone have any idea what this is?

Well, neither did I.  A friend of mine found it in a box of junk she bought at a auction and asked me if I would like to have it.  Of course, being the junk collector that I am, said “yes,  I'll take it.”   It was in my basement for the longest time until I decided to bring it to the cottage this weekend.

Perfect! I can now hang up my necklaces!

  I was a TJ Max’s this week and I found this wonderful, great smelling potpourri.  Love the colors!  Not free…but on clearance. and…..this little vase was given to me by the same friend that gave me the necklace holder.   I just LOVE it!  It sits on the bedside table in our guest room.  It always holds fresh flowers for our overnight guests.

Sometimes the best things in life are free.

Bargain Treasures

I would like to say thank's to all of my readers and followers.  I’m sorry that I
haven’t been the most dedicated blog gist but I have been a little busy for
the last couple of weeks! I appreciate your emails and comments.  They are

tarnish.   I’m so glad the tarnished look is in style.  Love old silver!
