A few Christmas Touches

Our Christmas décor is not the expected holiday formality, it’s definitely nothing fancy,  I basically decorate with things that have been in the family for years, and I look around the house and try to find inspiration for my own Christmas scheme.

Christmas 2014

Real greenery is rather expensive, so I always add a few cuttings from the yard.

If you like mulled cider, you must try this wonderful Cranberry and Apple mulled cider.  I found the recipe here at the Inspired Room.  This cider is not only delicious, but it smells heavenly too…just like Christmas, put on some Christmas music….. you will be in the Christmas spirit in no time!

.

While visiting Lake Tahoe this summer, I brought back a few pine cones. I believe they have the largest pine cones, especially compared to ours, that I have ever seen.  I only wish I had room to bring back more….love decorating with pine cones.

I found two things when I was cleaning the book cases, an old book about Notre Dame, of which, I added my Rosary that I purchased there several years ago and…..

.

an old Hymnal that belonged to my husband’s grandmother.  She also signed her name inside the cover, along with the date of 1929.

.

I bet you can’t guess which one is my favorite!  I tried to get a shot of our tree, but due to the all the rain and dark grey skies,

I had somewhat of a problem…

Christmas at Lavender & Linen

This old brass bowl has been around for as long as I can remember,  I just added some fresh greenery and beads.

It’s time to get the Christmas cards in the mail, and since I have several more to go…..I guess I should get busy.

In the Garden

Since everyone was out of the house for the day, I thought it would be a great time to spend some time photographing and playing in the garden. I have missed spending time in this little garden, but now that I’m back, and loving these cool, fall evenings, I‘m planning on spending the rest of the fall out here.

Since I sold a ton of stuff at my yard sale…. what did I do?  I  stopped by a thrift store and bought a set of these dishes for $20.00.  I thought they would be perfect to use for Thanksgiving dinner, plus I guess we never learn….gotta have more stuff.

I had to post this photo of my blog dog…Albert.  My daughter set up the backdrop, and after several attempts…. we finally got him to pose.  Isn’t he handsome? This is what some old ladies do when they don’t have grandchildren!

Thanks for stopping by , wishing you a wonderful week!

Happy fall Y’all!

Lake Time

We are spending a few days at the lake cottage. We have been busy pulling weeds, in between rains, and cleaning the cottage (not much fun)!  So today we took the day off to enjoy a little lake time.

All play and no work

Hello there friends!  We’ve been at our lake cottage this week and we decided to take the day off from gardening to enjoy the lake. Especially since it’s going to be in the 90’s.  Yes!  It’s been very HOT and there doesn’t seem to be a break in sight so I guess we’ll just hang out at the lake!

We docked our boat at Moore’s Resort and had lunch.   Albert was allowed to join us.

Dog Labor!

Albert has been carrying groceries for a long time now but it just so happened  that I had my camera with me this rainy afternoon.  I’m sorry but the picture is sort of  blurry. :(  Albert carrying groceries
He always waits until we get the door open before he start’s carrying.  (I didn’t say he was a DUMB dog.)  He absolutely LOVES to help carry ANYTHING.
