A touch of vintage nostalgia all through the house

It has been cold, snowy and now it’s raining.  Old man winter has definitely arrived…and he arrived early!  I say, bring it on so we can get it over with, let’s move on to spring!

I’m sharing a few winter photo’s along with scattered vintage Christmas décor throughout our house.

My Christmas mantle is decorated with my beloved, vintage red books,  I especially like old southern novels.

Our house will soon be celebrating 94 years of age this year.  It’s hard to believe we have lived here for over 40 years!  You can only imagine the “stuff” you can collect when you live somewhere for that long.

Each Christmas I always love to decorate with old toys and items that were Christmas gifts to family members from the past.  The little iron stove was a gift to my mother in law it’s close to 100 year old,  the pipe and ashtray belonged to my father in law, also from the early 1900’s era, along with the baby shoes.  The little vase with wax flowers was given to me by a sweet old dear friend.  She didn’t have any children, and wanted me to have it. This little vase was given to her when she was a child, She has been gone for over 30 years and she was in her late eighties when she died, so it has to be from the 1800’s. The little Jack Horner bowl and cup along with the baby blocks are around 67 years old.

Of course, hub’s little Looky fire truck has always been one of my favorites!

I was thinking about some of these old toys and how the kids, back in the day, took such good care of them.  Times have certainly changed….

You're showing so many beautiful photographs for this time of year that I'm surprised you're longing for springtime. I like your beautiful red books and the stories that go with the lovely toys.

Mary,
I loved browsing through your home at Christmas time. Everything looks so nice. I really like the red Fire truck. The red ornament against the white snow is such a beautiful picture. Your dog is so cute - this should be a Christmas picture that you send out to all your friends.

Love,
~Sheri
