~Christmas Cactus~

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood today so Albert and I walked through the woods

and gathered fresh evergreens and pinecones for our Christmas décor.

Do you like Christmas cactus?

You have to purchase this plant early for best selection.

They come in shades of yellow, red, pink, fuchsia,

white and orange to brighten your holidays.

These easy plants are favorites for both new and experienced gardeners.  Care is simple.

They prefer bright, indirect light.

While blooming, keep the soil evenly moist, not soggy.

As you can tell this little cactus needed a new pot badly.

High winds knocked it over this summer,  so I just stuck it in the

first thing I could find.  I think I actually threw it in the trash, but later reconsidered.

While I was at Michaels, last month, I used my

50% coupon and bought this little clay pot for around $1.50.

I saw this flower pot tutorial while I was on Pinterest.

I wanted a little bit more of a taupe finish instead of white so I

used Ralph Lauren’s smoke glaze along with grey and white acrylic paint.

It’s the first thing I see every morning….adds a little Christmas cheer to my day.

Here’s another Christmas Cactus that I’ve had for several years.

It will probably get a new French pot next year.

I hung Christmas wreaths and finally finished the outside Christmas decorating,

I’m ready to sit down and relax with a nice cup of coffee.

I hope you’re having a great weekend!

Take care and I will see you soon!

My Grand Mother had a huge one. She had a nack of getting it to bloom right on time for Christmas. It was a high light of my holidays as a little kid to see the Christmas cactus in bloom. We all got starts, mine has disappeared, who knows? My sister still has a generation of it and it is blooming now, early, not like Granny"s. Richard from My Old Historic House.
