DIY Subway Art

Our back patio, at the lake cottage, certainly needed a little

sprucing up.

I’ve seen several pieces of subway art on the web that looked so

neat and interesting.  I was thinking…. this might be

the perfect solution.

I found this piece of plywood and trim left over from another project in our basement,

and realized this would make the perfect sign.

I also had some black and white spray paint left over.

I first sprayed it with white spray paint and then went over the white with black.

I thought this project was going to be easy, but I soon found out it was somewhat time consuming

and required a few math skills, Ugh!

The stencil,  I was going to use, was waaa too big for the frame

and since I didn’t want any money tied up in this master piece,

I just winged most of it, crooked letters and all.

After painting the letters, I let it dry overnight.  The next day, I  used

an electric hand sander and sanded down the letters and frame,

just to get a weathered look.

It’s now a cozy little place to sit and relax with a glass of cold iced tea

and watch the hummingbirds and  butterflies.

I'm trying to decide whether I should be intimidated or inspired by your cleverness! I think I'll choose the latter. :)
Your sign and photos are terrific!

I think it turned out perfectly! Not quite subway art but more of a sign you'd find at the lake or at a pool ... and I love being by the lake and the pool!

Perfect!

:)

Mary, I just love your sign and what it says. It goes perfect with your little patio set. I love all the oranges and bright colors. Let me know if you ever see a hummingbird. You did a nice job on your subway art.

I love your sign!! I found you at "Show and Tell Friday"/My Romantic Home. Is this your permanent home or is a weekend home? This is actually our true move-in day at our new beach home (for weekends and escapes) so I'm having a good time dolling things up a bit.
Can't wait to see what else you come up with. I'll be back as I'm your newest follower.
