Old Memories and Treasures

Hello Everyone!

Where did the weekend go?

We have been enjoying this beautiful weather, not too hot…just right!

Anyway, I have been trying to straighten and tidy things up a bit in our

old musty basement…and I just happened to find a box of vintage table scarves tucked away in a box,

along with this old ironing board.

This a replica of an old time ironing board.  What makes this one so special…

it was made and given to me by my oldest brother….

many years ago.

This little dress belonged to my mother in law.

I also found a couple of these old irons.

While I was sorting through all of these things  I couldn’t help

but think about the person that made these lovely embroidered and

crocheted scarves.

Anyway, they are clean, starched and ironed ready for photo shoots.

After I had taken my photo’s above I found this on Pinterest.

Isn’t this a cute idea to have for a ladies luncheon?

This was on Pottery Barn’s Blog website.

Thank you so much for stopping by….. I hope you have a

wonderful week!

We’re off to one of my favorite places to visit, New Orleans.

See you soon!

  1. Love your new style blog. Your pictures are so lovely, I thought you'd been cleaning out my cupboards as I have a collection of table linen so similar and also the old iron. A lovely post. have a fab time in New Orleans. I visited there about 20yrs ago, in fact the only time and place I've been to USA.

  2. All your photos are so beautiful they could be in a magazine! I love that ironing board, I would never be able to use it for fear of damage. Just perfect. Chel x

  5. Good Afternoon Mary, I have tried to leave you a message a couple of times, but I have not been able to. I even sent an email, but that bounced back to me, so I am hoping I am successful this time. I think I will be as I see other friends have left you messages.
Mary, your new banner is lovely, I adore it. The ironing board that your brother made for you is gorgeous, it looks so sturdy.
Do you know I remember my Gramps ironing with an iron like the one you have shown us. He used to put the iron on the heat, put a drop of water on the iron and if it sizzled it was ready to iron the cotton sheets. He let me try once, but it was so heavy I found it difficult to move and consequently burnt one of the sheets. So I shall not offer to iron your beautiful linens.
    Have a lovely weekend.
    Best Wishes
    Daphne

  7. Mary,
I just love these old irons. I sometimes see them when I go to the antique shops. I also have some vintage doilies that my grandmother made, and these crocheted scarves remind me of them. Your pictures are very nice today. I tried to leave a comment on another post earlier, but it was set up differently and didn't go through.

I hope you are enjoying the summer days.

    Love,
    ~Sheri
